Samuel Cooper, LCSW-C, MMTCP

Samuel Cooper (he/him; you can call him Sam) is a Licensed Certified Social Worker (Clinical), meditation teacher, and yogi. He practices from a trauma-sensitive foundation of pan-cultural spirituality and eclectic theory, and believes that therapy must be creative, fluid, and collaborative in order to meet the unique and changing needs of each client. No matter how big or small the issues we face, no matter how deep or wide the questions we ask, he believes that each of us contains the power to move towards insight, growth, authenticity, and healing… it’s in our True Nature.

With a background in mind-body-heart modalities (meditation, breath work, Yoga), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Buddhist psychology, contemplative philosophies, and anthropological psychology, Samuel has a holistic, person-in-environment view on human wellness. His therapeutic style is compassionate, spacious, engaged, and relational.

Deeply invested in liberatory and anti-oppressive work, Samuel is committed to creating an affirming therapeutic container for all people regardless of identity status or category of difference. He has experience working with LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, disabled, immigrant, military, and rural populations. Also, Samuel is a sex-positive and psychedelic-friendly therapist, and fundamentally operates from a perspective of harm-reduction and de-stigmatization in all his work.

In addition to a Masters in Social Work from University of Maryland Baltimore, Samuel holds a dual Bachelor’s in American Studies and English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland College Park, which represents training in both wide-angle sociocultural awareness and close reading of the narrative threads that form the tapestry of our lives. He also earned formal certification as a meditation teacher through Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach’s 2-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program (MMTCP). He teaches a weekly class at Center for Mindful Living and offers workshops and retreats.

Interested in how consciousness change can affect both profound personal healing and society-wide transformation, Sam’s work is ultimately dedicated to the flourishing of all beings.

Samuel operates in Maryland under License # 29186.
